Pam Roth O'Mara Offers Theater, Writing, and Art Workshops

Image
Yes, indeed - she's back!! Pam Roth O'Mara (that would be me) is offering a variety of theater (improv); journaling and playwriting (ThumbPrintPlayWriting ™ ); and art (ThumbPrintPlayArt ™ ) workshops at the Goodson Rec Center, Centennial starting September 2014. Improv encourages ages 16+ to improve creative and communication skills, while acting allows kids to learn character creation, scene-making, and play production. Pam uses a technique she calls ThumbPrintPlayWriting ™   to teach kids how to create characters and bring them to life in improvised scenes, which flow into a complete theatrical production. What could be more cool and fun! See www.thumbprintplays.com for more information about ThumbPrintPlayWriting ™ and  ThumbPrintPlayArt ™. Here's the lineup: Improv Scene Making (Session I) : For Adults 16+ - date/time to be determined Improv Scene Making (Session II) : For Adults 16+ - date/time to be determined Hey, Parents - if you're looking for an exci

Whips and Brides

Last night we saw The Whipping Man at Curious Theatre; tomorrow we'll imbibe The Legend of Georgia McBride  at the Denver Center. Both by Matthew Lopez. All we can say about The Whipping Man is "wow." Curious Theatre is famous for wow productions, and The Whipping Man met that expectation. But what were we expecting? We didn't know what to expect. Curious Theatre's description barely touches the tip of the iceberg:  In the aftermath of the Civil War, a Jewish Confederate soldier returns home to discover two of his former slaves living in the ruins of his family’s once grand plantation. Bound together by faith, they reunite to celebrate Passover and confront their past, present and future.  The Whipping Man  is a hauntingly powerful drama about newfound freedom and the painful legacy of slavery.  The Whipping Man tips the iceberg. Just go see it. Tell them, Pam Roth O'Mara, nice Jewish girl from Long Island, sent you. ...Visit   SoHa  Happenings  in  Co

Happy New Year 2014! from SoHa Colorado

Image
It's 2014... This year   SoHa  Happenings  in  Colorado ™   Journal   is taking on a new persona. Or, maybe better said... bursting out of the previous persona. For more than 3 years (count 'em, three) - since Fall 2010 - the SoHa  Happenings  in  Colorado ™   Journal   mission was to talk about arts and culture, and the people making it all happen in SoHa Colorado (see the "About" tab for a description of the area); and promote the artists from and performing/exhibiting in SoHa Colorado. Gradually, the person behind the curtain (remember the Wizard of Oz - "ignore the person behind the curtain!")  has become more and more determined to focus on her own creative work. However, because  SoHa Happenings has developed a following with well over 230,000 visits; 250 Twitter followers (give or take 10 or 12 on any give day); and dozens of Facebook friends, SHJ will continue to exist - with less frequent postings and more commentary about the arts as perceived by
